In 5MD, any action is better than no action. Valkyrie is great for larger groups, Huntress is awesome in 2-player, and Thief is always useful.Do something! The thing that will stop new players more than anything is indecision. Make sure to bring someone who can draw cards.
When you flip over a Dungeon card, call out if it's a Monster, Obstacle, Person, or Mini-Boss. The worst thing you can do in this game is nothing.Call out the card types. If no one immediately plays the symbols you need, just use your ability, or play a card to make others draw cards.
That way nobody starts throwing down cards that are not needed.Edit: Re-reading the rules I cannot find anywhere that says you have to lose the cards you played even if you didn't need to play them. For example if you have a card that defeats obstacles let everyone know you will take care of the next obstacle that pops up. Even if it wasn't needed.It happens a lot when two people play the same card but you only needed one.As for tips the thing that helps my group is to call out when you have a card that will defeat another type card. Saying "I've got a sword!" is good, but saying "We need a shield!" is better, as it helps the rest of the players know what action they need to take in order to help the team.Hopefully those tips help, and good luck beating that baby!I don't have the rules in front of me but I believe it says if a card is played/put on the table it is no longer available and is swept aside with the rest.
The pdf I looked at on my phone said nothing about having to play a card you put on the table and yet when I got home and looked at the rules in my kickstarter copy, page 7 states "A card laid is a card played". If that's the case then I have been playing wrong for a while now and somehow managed to defeat all but the last boss.Edit: Apparently there are different versions of this rule book.
